Macquarie University Substation, Macquarie Park
Behind every world-class research facility is infrastructure that never fails. At Macquarie University, Prime Projects built the foundation that makes that possible.
Prime Projects delivered a new standalone chamber substation within the Macquarie University Precinct – a high-stakes, technically demanding infrastructure project governed by the dual compliance requirements of both Macquarie University Electrical Services Standards and Ausgrid network standards. Designed to support the University’s expanding Science and Medical research precincts, the substation provides dedicated 11kV high-voltage supply via connection to the Ausgrid Macquarie Zone substation.
The technical scope was exacting. Multiple 1.5MVA transformers were configured to deliver reliable, large-scale power supply to critical research facilities. Specialised civil works encompassed precision excavation, benching, and the installation of a dedicated substation earth grid and oil containment system. The structure was constructed as a dedicated fire compartment in full compliance with the National Construction Code, including fire-rated doors certified to AS 2067.
Rigorous planning, early Ausgrid engagement and meticulous construction management ensured every standard was met – on a live university campus where disruption was never an option.
Critical infrastructure, delivered with precision. Quietly, reliably, and exactly right.
