Bungarribee Community Resource Hub, Blacktown

Some buildings serve a neighbourhood. This one was built by one.

Prime Projects delivered the Bungarribee Community Resource Hub for a joint venture between Urban Growth and Blacktown City Council – a purpose-built 1,200m² facility at the heart of the new Bunya residential estate, designed by Simpson & Wilson Architects and completed well ahead of programme.

From the outset, the project was different. Sustainability wasn’t an afterthought — it was embedded in every decision, from carbon-reducing material selection to energy-efficient construction techniques. Straw bale walls became the project’s defining moment, with local residents invited to participate in a community workshop to help erect them by hand – turning a construction milestone into a shared experience that the neighbourhood could genuinely call their own.

The building’s design draws on the site’s agricultural heritage and honours its Darug history, with integrated artworks by Aboriginal artists woven into the facade and foyer. Inside, a main hall for 100 people, meeting rooms, a semi-commercial kitchen, office spaces and hardwood floors create a hub that is warm, functional and unmistakably community-focused.
